Trackside Log for Sunday, June 25, 2006

It was a rather pleasant afternoon so I headed trackside at lunch time. I hadn't been to the Canadian National Grimsby subdivision west of St. Catharines for a while so I decided to visit 9th Street Louth.

Considering the weather getting more overcast and the lack of trains on the Grimsby subdivision in the afternoon I returned home.

Today I hitched a ride to New York with Dave, Laura, Steve and Kevin. This was a brand new experience for Kevin and Steve. Neither had railfanned in the U.S. before. The first destination was Sturgeon Point Road in Angola.

We were getting hungry so we drove into Angola proper. Just after our arrival a westbound appeared.

During lunch several trains snuck through town. Afterward we continued on our way west.

We found a few trains around Dunkirk and continued toward North East. Everybody was stopped at Westfield so we managed to get ahead of a couple.

We then continued into North East to the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society museum where we photographed the equipment on display, toured the museum, and waited for trains.

The shadows were getting very long. We gathered our gear and started east with a short stop at the overpass just east of town.

Trackside Log for Sunday, June 18, 2006

This was Father's Day and I dropped by the canal and Canadian National railway tracks on my way to visit my family. I timed it so that I could see Via 97.

After train 97 and two ships in the canal I left to see my dad.

It was another nice day and I thought I'd take a book out to the tracks and the canal - "Therapy" by Jonathan Kellerman. It was very slow on Canadian National but at least there were some ships in the canal.

Just before train 98 CN train 330 blew through but I didn't get a good look at it.

After a few ships I threw in the towel.

Trackside Log for Saturday, June 10, 2006

The morning was cool, clear and perfect for some photography so I headed to the tracks at Merritton. I took along a book and set out for a nice relaxed day.

Bridge 6 was raised and train 97 waited at Seaway for the Algosoo to clear.

Once again bridge 6 was up so train 93 waited for approximately a half hour for the Thalassa Desgagnes to enter lock 4 west. Isn't it nice how only the passenger trains are delayed today?

Little else was happening on the rails so I photographed two ships in the canal and called it a day.

Trackside Log for Sunday, June 4, 2006

By the early afternoon the clearing skies gave me the encouragement I required to make my way trackside and canalside. First I drove to lock 7 to see the Algowood and the tug Michigan. Canal traffic was very light so I headed to the Canadian National tracks in Merritton. The goal was to see the Maple Leaf and any freight CN decided to grace me with.

Via 98 was approximately 30 minutes late. I wasn't too surprised. I wasn't likely to see much more so I called it quits.
