Trackside Log for Tuesday, March 7, 2006

It was an absolutely beautiful day so I headed for the tracks. As I arrived at Merritton I heard train 339 call a foreman.

• 0810 Merritton - CN 339 east - CN 5629-CN 5542-CN 6021

I didn't feel like spending the day in Merritton so I migrated south. Train 339 was lifting Port Robinson and would arrive eventually.

• 0951 Brookfield - CN 339 east - CN 5629-CN 5542-CN 6021

I heard CP job 1 obtain permission from a foreman to proceed from Welland to Brookfield so I ventured to the tunnel under the canal.

• 1056 Welland - CP job 1 south - CP 3038

I've wanted to photograph the swing bridge in Montrose for a long time so I took the opportunity.

• 1128 Montrose - CP job 1 south - CP 3038

I headed back to Brookfield to wait for a very slow NS 328. They were having difficulties with their SBU (supplemental braking unit) and were limited to 25 mph.

• 1322 Brookfield - NS 328 east - NS 8977-NS 6805

Earlier I had heard that CP 248 would be departing Kinnear at 1300. By the time NS 328 passed I figured I should get over to CP. That turned out to be a good plan. I got to the tracks just minutes before 248.

• 1349 Wainfleet - CP 248 south - CP 9739-CP 8579

Very little else was going on so I deemed it home time. On the way I ran across CN 333.

• 1420 Jordan Station - CN 333 east - CN 5679

Oooh, exciting.
