Trackside Log for Sunday, January 31, 2010

On my way to buy milk I heard on the scanner that train 246 had just met train 255 in Smithville. Earlier I'd missed 255 which was led by SOO 6058. I had time to get the milk, stop at home for my camera and then head out for a photograph. I decided to take Missy over to Chantler Road for this one.

The St. Lawrence & Hudson SD40-2 was pretty grungy looking. Still, it was nice to see one of the few that remain still running around.

Later in the evening I was getting ready to take Missy for a walk when I heard train 427 north obtain a clearance from Welland Yard to Smithville to meet 426 south. It was getting rather dark but I decided to try for a photograph anyway. We walked out behind my house to see it.

Missy and I then continued our walk. Shortly after arriving home (in the dark) train 426 came through town with SOO 6031 leading. Four trains with GM locomotives on them is something of a miracle lately.

I was heading home from work a bit early today so I could work on some diagrams. As I was leaving Welland I heard Canadian Pacific train 427 announce it was leaving Welland Yard. As it turned out I beat it home. I quickly grabbed my camera, put Missy on her leash and ran up to the Church Street crossing for a picture. I just made it in time.

Trackside Log for Saturday, January 23, 2010

I decided to leave the scanner on during the day today to see what Canadian Pacific might run along the Hamilton Subdivision. In the morning the local ran some pipe loads to Smithville but I was busy and didn't go see it although it had a pair of GP9s for power.

Later in the afternoon, at the conclusion of watching a movie, I heard train 246 report clear of Vinemount so I got my camera and took Missy over to River Road for a photograph.

After a nice photograph across the fields south of Fenwick I took Missy back home to wait for Sam to arrive. We were going to a murder mystery supper at Da Vinci's of Fenwick.

Trackside Log for Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Immediately after getting home from work today I heard horns approaching from the south. I got my camera, put a leash on Missy and walked to the back of my property for a photograph.

It's nice to see the odd Soo SD60 back on the Hamilton Subdivision. It makes for a nice break in the constant stream of GE motive power.

At home this morning I heard the sound of an approaching northbound and decided to take a photograph of it. I grabbed my camera and walked to the back of my property to see it.

Just as I was about to head out the door with Missy for her morning walk I heard approaching horns. I walked her behind my house to have a look at the northbound.
