I had to go into work tonight and on my way home I heard train 430 obtain permission to pass through the working limits from mile three to mile eight of the Grimsby subdivision. I knew I could make it to Merritton before it, and it was on my way home, so I figured why not take a look even if it is dark.
- 0039 Merritton - CN 430 west - CN 5779
There were over twenty coil cars on the head end. After that excitement I headed home, eventually to bed.
I wasn't going into work until later today so I dropped by Merritton again for the morning. A few CSX detours have been coming through because of a derailment on the old New York Central St. Lawrence Division.
- 0901 Merritton - CN 422 west - CN 5701-BCOL 4626
- 0922 Merritton - CN 421 east - CN 5696-CN 2583
Bridge 6 was up and 421 had to wait for about a half hour.
- 0958 Merritton - CN 421 east - CN 5696-CN 2583
- 1006 Merritton - NS 327 west - UP 4221-NS 6522
- 1011 Merritton - Via 97 east - AMTK 706
- 1131 Merritton - NS 328 east - BNSF 9402-NS 8862
- 1138 Merritton - CN 332 west (CSX detour) - CN 2518-CSXT 8666-CSXT 8660
At that point I headed to work. A train 331 east was on the way that I suspected to be another detour since 331 is normally a westbound. I planned to catch it near Welland by taking a quick break from work. My timing was good. By the time I got to Netherby Road it was calling out the signals at Port Robinson.
- 1248 Netherby Road - CN 331 east (CSX detour) - CN 2644-CN 5772
Well, it wasn't CSX power but I'm pretty sure it was a detour. Oh well. Back to work.
