Trackside Log for Saturday, April 2, 2011

I had the scanner tuned into the Canadian Pacific's Hamilton Subdivision road frequency for the day. However, it was very quiet. Finally, in the early afternoon train 255 acquired a clearance from the dispatcher. I waited for it to get to Brookfield before heading over to Welland Yard to see it.

  • 1404 Welland - CP 255 north - CP 8641-CP 8725-CP 8244

CP 8244 is ex-STLH 8244, ex-CP 8244, nee CP 8834:1 and has been assigned to the Delaware & Hudson for many years. Since I rarely see this GP9 and the clouds were not cooperating at Welland Yard I decided to meet up with it somewhere around Smithville for another attempt.

  • 1439 Grassie - CP 255 north - CP 8641-CP 8725-CP 8244

The photograph at Grassie worked out much better. An interesting detail of CP 8244 is that it still has the 52 year old steel plate across the grille behind the cab where the yellow stripe was applied from its original maroon and grey paint.
