Trackside Log for Sunday, January 22, 2006

I awoke to nearly clear skies today. I predicted that the thin overcast would gradually thicken as the day progressed. My forecast would prove accurate. The first order of the day was to head to Horseshoe Curve.
  • 0852 Horseshoe Curve, PA - display - PRR 7048
  • 0900 Horseshoe Curve, PA - NS eastbound - NS 9857-NS 3539-NS 9094 w/ helper NS 3341-NS 3343
  • 0923 Horseshoe Curve, PA - display - PRR 7048 (from the other end)
  • 0941 Horseshoe Curve, PA - NS westbound - NS 3347-NS 3337 (helper)-NS 9594-CRIX 2110 w/ helper NS 3338-NS 3362

I decided to venture over to Cresson again and caught up with the rear helper set again.

  • 1009 Cresson, PA - NS westbound helper - NS 3362-NS 3338
  • 1013 Cresson, PA - NS power - NS 7207
  • 1015 Cresson, PA - NS eastbound - NS 6795-NS 6574 w/ helper NS 3374-NS 3363
  • 1036 Lilly, PA - NS eastbound - NS 9512-NS 9063-NS 6724
  • 1042 Lilly, PA - NS 14G east - NS 8443-NS 8345 w/ helper NS 3387-NS 3369

At that point I decided it was time to start back home.

  • 1244 Riker Yard, Punxatawney, PA - NS northbound - NS 2692-NS 2663
  • 1337 Du Bois, PA - B&P power - BPRR 922-BPRR 305
  • 1441 Johnsonburg, PA - B&P switcher - GWRR 45

Just after photographing the switcher I heard the Buffalo & Pittsburgh dispatcher give a clearance to engine 460 north from Johnsonburg to Salamanca. I drove out ahead to photograph it but got confused and went the wrong way. Doh!!! I resumed my trek but wound up so far ahead that it would be dark before it caught up to me. I could have gone back I suppose, but I hoped to find other targets to photograph.

  • 1600 Bradford, PA - B&P power - RS 879
  • 1649 Salamanca, NY - B&P power - BPRR 203

It was rather dark when I photographed Buffalo & Pittsburgh 203 so I pretty much headed home from there. The one stop I did make was in Angola, NY to record the CSX detector there.
